The one and only Kevin Pietersen stopped by to promote his new range of Spartan bats and raise awareness of his new passion, a conservation project closely linked to Save the African Rhino Foundation.
In the last couple of years Kevin has become a real voice for the rhino, speaking out about the illegal trade in horns, and generously donating all the profit from his Rhino range of cricket bats to charity.
Kevin explained this is something very close to his heart and heritage, ‘a rhino gets killed in Africa every eight hours. It kills me to see it and hear about it on a daily basis. Wildlife is my thing having been brought up in South Africa, and the conservation side is something that I love doing.’
Save the African Rhino Foundation is now in its 30th year of rhino conservation. They remain hopeful and stay tenacious, as they know that rhinos can be brought back from the brink. In fact if it were not for the Save the African Rhino Foundation, the black rhinoceros would already be extinct in Zimbabwe by now. All this has been achieved with grassroots support, a loyal membership base and the assistance of patrons.
“Kevin made the day so special for everyone who came down. He is a great guy who really cares about a great cause,” said Andy Woodard, owner of Romida, ‘we’d like to thank him for generously giving up his time to spend with us and giving all the local kids, and most of their parents, a day they’ll never forget.”
